Rear subframe on Estoril. Every single bushing at the rear subframe and suspension , plus some reinforcement and other goodies. Being able to have the car up on jacks for a few weeks is definitely the only way I’d be able to tackle this project. But man, pressing out bushings is a real pita.  Once we got it all apart, the bushings didn’t look bad at all, but hey, I already bought all the replacements and the damn thing was out already...

The subframe mounting points are a bit of a concern with the E36 and E46 chassis, and I was definitely holding my breath to see what I’d find there. Luckily, the real MVP previous owner already reinforced the subframe mounting points! Those are the welded-on plates around the mounts.

The sandblaster has got to be one of my favorite tools.

Also some adjustable control arms going in.

Not an exact color match, but close enough.

Fun! Are you going with firmer bushings or staying stock? Either way will be an improvement.

I’m trying to come up with a list of things to do to my car in this situation  but it’s very short

Very nice!

I ordered a PCV v alve and power window switches for my GTI. Nothing like what you’re doing, but it’s stuff that needs to be fixed if I want to keep this thing a while.

I have the same lower control arms in my 328. Some dingu s doing an alignment seems to have misunderstood they have right and left hand threads.

Staying stock - My thinking is I’m not adding power, so the stock bushings shouldn’t be over- stressed. And with stock bushings, the frame won’t be over-stressed. I didn’t know going in that my frame was reinforced, and I’d probably be fine with poly mounts, but it’s also a daily driver and I want to keep some comfort .

Oof. Did they mangle the threads?

The threads are ok. One or two of the nuts are  slightly rounded, but still serviceable.
